This Year I Overcame Cancer

This one is quite hard to prefix. There’s not much else I can say to prepare you guys for this, so here goes. This year I’ve been dealing with something in secret, and that is the fact that a few months ago I underwent treatment for marginal zone lymphoma.

Marginal zone lymphoma is an uncommon form of cancer. It has a pretty good prognosis, but even so, this was naturally a pretty scary time for me, especially in light of some health issues I had earlier in my life.

It wasn’t always so easy to choose positivity in the face of everything, and so I wanted to keep things quiet until it was all finished. Now that it’s over, I can finally share it with you. I hope my story gives some encouragement to anybody else going through a similar time.

This is much easier to talk about than to write about, so I’ve filmed the vlog above detailing how it all unfolded for me.

In 2015 I was treated for marginal-zone lymphoma. Read more: http://www.thelostlemurian.com/2015/09/this-year-i-overcame-cancer/

Now I would like to hear from you.ย Have you gone through an experience with cancer, or has anybody you know had to deal with it? Do you have any tips for staying positive? Are there any lifestyle choices you made to support your body in healing from or preventing cancer?

  1. Thank you so much for sharing this with us! You’re a very brave and strong lady! Cancer is very scary. I’ve lost many important people in my life to cancer, it definitely runs in my family… I love that you have such a positive attitude about it, I think that’s the best thing you can do – plus taking care of your body with a vegan diet helps, too! Sending all sorts of good vibes your way, take care!!!

  2. Loved your video and I’m so happy you are 1. cancer free and 2. able to share your story. Loved that you filmed it in the rain! Did the hubby get made at you after all? haha. I also believe in the law of attraction, and good for you for staying positive through such a stressful and difficult time. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Karyn, I had no idea you were going through this! I am so glad to hear that you have managed to beat cancer back and that you’re in a really good place now, both physically and psychologically. I completely understand why you kept this to yourself, but am glad you finally have felt that your story was ready to be shared. I know I am guilty of having put off visits to the doctor because I don’t want to overreact or, more often than not, because I am scared of what I might find out. I know I’m not alone in that, so hopefully your story will encourage more people to be proactive about their health.

Here’s to many more years of you being cancer free!

    • Thanks Steph – yep, I just felt it was best to go through it privately instead of publicly. And it was all happening when there was a bit of drama going on during Mercury Retrograde and I just wanted to say to people, “If you only knew what I was going through, you wouldn’t be bothering me with this petty shit…” but I couldn’t say a word. ๐Ÿ™‚

Definitely don’t put off trips to the doctor though – the earlier you catch things the easier they are to handle! Prevention is always better than cure of course, but things still happen and it’s best to be vigilant.

  4. My mum had cancer in 2009 and it really broke the hearts of our family members. We also did a lot of lifestyle change and also made our faith a little bit bigger than our fears. We learned to pray more and to show our appreciation for each other too. I’m glad you’re better. My mom is also better and has been in remission for 5 years already. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. Dear Karyn! I am so sorry to hear that you have been going through this scary time but so, so happy and relived that you have come through it. You are such a beautiful person and have always been such an encourager to me! To think that you have been facing this battle all along just makes my heart swell. I am cheering for you my friend and so excited for your new chapter. So much love xxx

    • Thank you Sarah! Yes, I needed to keep it to myself, even though I know you and many others would definitely have been there to support me if I’d decided otherwise. It’s so awesome to hear that you feel I’ve been an encourager to you – because I would describe you as the one who is the encourager here. I never realised you found me encouraging too. ๐Ÿ˜€ Much luv. xx
